We are currently reviewing the provision of GP services in Askam.
This has been prompted by the decision by Dr Jain to retire, which means he has decided to terminate his contract and given notice that he will cease to provide services from March 31, 2020. As you may be aware, Dr Jain is the sole GP at this practice and we are now considering what alternative arrangements need to be put in place to ensure continuity of care for patients going forward.
NHS Morecambe Bay Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is responsible for the contracts for General Practice (GP) services in Morecambe Bay, working with NHS England. It is our aim to ensure that all our communities have access to the highest quality, safe GP services possible.
To determine the best options for future provision, we will consider the needs of the local area and will come up with options, which meet the needs of local people, delivers the highest possible quality of care and are sustainable long-term.
In order for the CCG and NHS England to determine the future of the local GP provision we will be undertaking a Health Needs Analysis, which will include the gathering of patient views. There will be drop in sessions at the Askam Practice on the following dates and we would invite you to attend and share your views, we are very keen to work with you to ensure that we get this right for the local community.
- Wednesday 22 January from 6.30pm until 8pm
- Thursday 23 January from 11am until 12.30pm
- Tuesday 28 January from 2pm until 3.30pm
- Wednesday 29 January from 6.30pm until 8pm
As a priority, we are writing out to Dr Jain’s patients to ensure they are aware of the situation, to reassure them that we will put arrangements in place so that they can have continued access to GP services and to gather their views in relation to the future provision.
In the meantime, Dr Jain’s practice remains open as normal. Patients can continue to access services as well as re-ordering prescriptions in the usual way at this practice.
We are committed to open and regular communications throughout the process to ensure all stakeholders are informed and up to date.
