Clinical Chair thanks people of Morecambe Bay

Health boss thanks public for adhering to government guidance and urges those who are suffering with other illnesses to still “use the NHS”.

Dr Geoff Jolliffe, Clinical Chair of Morecambe Bay Clinical Commissioning Group has appeared in a video released by Bay Health and Care Partners where he thanks the people of Morecambe Bay.

He said: “Thank you for coping with the severe restrictions that have been put upon you and thank you for coping with a health service that’s working completely differently.”

Dr Jolliffe explains that the way general practice is operating at the moment, may feel “alien” to some, but asks the population to “bear with us”.

He explains that even though the front doors are locked, they are done so, to reduce the risk of infection and assures the public that GPs are still treating patients.

Dr Jolliffe said: “If you have significant problems, please still use us.”

The local NHS has felt an overwhelming response of support from the public which has been displayed in a number of different ways.

Dr Jolliffe explained: “It’s been really encouraging, the support we have felt from you, from the clapping and the banging of pans, right through to the messages on social media and indeed all the things that you have done, particularly adhering to the rules which really supports the NHS, so thank you.”

The coronavirus pandemic has resulted in a decrease in people accessing NHS services for a range of conditions that are not related to coronavirus.

Please remember that if you need medical help you should still contact your GP practice, use 111 online or call 111. If you are told to go to hospital, then it is important that you go to hospital.

If you start showing symptoms of having coronavirus (COVID-19) which include a high temperature and/or a new, continuous cough, you need to stay at home and self-isolate for 7 days. If you live with someone else, you need to self-isolate for 14 days.

You do not need to contact NHS 111 if you are self-isolating, only if your symptoms worsen after 7 days.
